You will learn and practice all the skills you need to understand and communicate in English – listening, speaking, reading, writing, pronunciation, as well as vocabulary, idioms, and grammar.  You will be taught “real” English and how to use common phrases and words in the right situation.  You will gain increased confidence in various social settings.

This is the opportunity to practice the skills you learned in the morning classes.  Interactive activities include conversation, discussion, debate, and role play.  You will be given the opportunity to read about, listen to, research and write about issues of personal, local, social and global interest.  These classes are fun and active.  The focus is on fluency and functional communication skills. (There is an extra fee for these classes)

  1. Level 2 students will not have electives as their level is too low. They will continue with Essential Skills in the first Elective Class and can take a private lesson instead of the second elective and the workshop to progress more quickly.
  2. Electives are offered on a rotating basis and according to student interest and student numbers.

IELTS International English Language Testing System – Prep Course

Our IELTS Preparation course has been designed to prepare you to successfully complete the IELTS examination. This course focuses on each of the four modules of the IELTS test and will discuss strategies to better prepare for the final examination.
This test is intended for candidates planning to use English for academic purposes or for immigration purposes.

  • Focuses on the main components of Academic English as used in university-style courses.
  • Flexible delivery, 4-12 weeks in duration.
  • 2 main components to the course: Core studies and IELTS Test Practice. The Core component focuses on improving your language skills. The intensive test practice component builds your familiarity with the format of the test and provides you with the opportunity to practise a range of test-taking strategies within given time limits.
  • Your progress is monitored throughout the course, and your exam practice will provide ongoing feedback about your progress towards mastery of the target skills.

TOEFL Test Preparation

This full-time TOEFL/University Preparation course leads to the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL).
Course content
Students are prepared for the three main components of the TOEFL exam:
Listening Comprehension 
Grammar and Written Expression 
Vocabulary Building 
The course also covers test-writing strategies with frequent practice examinations. The program includes academic readings, essay-writing and seminar-style discussions.
Thematic units are based on courses that students will encounter at college or university as well as subjects that are of interest to high-level students.
The main components are:

    • Oral Skills
    • Reading Comprehension
    • Writing Skills
    • Research and Study Methods

TOEIC Test Preparation

Westwind English Academy offers aPreparation Program for the TOEIC Test (Test of English for International Communication). It is a program for students who are interested in taking the TOEIC examination. This program assesses English language competency in a business context and is used by companies around the world to determine English communication skills.

Course content

Students are prepared for the main components of the TOEIC examination by covering the following: listening comprehension, reading, business-oriented vocabulary review and grammar review.
