VEP Program (Volunteer English Placement Program)

 

Program Requirements:

Level:  Minimum Level 3 (WEA Standards)

Complete VEP Interview questions; pre-assessment Language Use test;
and hand-written 400 word essay

Age:  20 years old minimum

Police Clearance from home country (for school placements only)

Copy of CV (resume) with recent photo

 

Option 1

12 hours of ESL/week

10 hours of Volunteer Placement/week

Students must have a minimum Intermediate level of English.

 

Option 2

15 hours of ESL/week

10 hours of Volunteer Placement/week

Students must have a minimum Intermediate level of English.

 

ENGLISH RETREAT

Age:  18+

Duration:  Minimum 1 month/ recommended 2 months

20 hours/week of ESL instruction

 

Purpose:  Focusing on specific needs of students while motivating them to continue to study in Canada.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 



Teacher's Volunteer Program

 

This program has been specifically designed for individuals who are Elementary or High School English Language teachers in their home country.  It has been developed to give teachers the opportunity to work in a classroom environment learning new teaching techniques and activities that they can use in their own classroom.  This program has been developed by teachers for teachers.

  • Weekly feedback - Classroom teacher and Westwind English Academy
  • Assessment and evaluation from Westwind English Academy, Assumption School Principal and Classroom Teacher

We offer three choices for teachers.

Option 1 - 4 Week Integrated Program

Family Programs

 

Westwind English Academy offers families (up to 4 persons) the opportunity to study in Canada together in the family-centered community of Powell River, British Columbia, Canada.

Accommodations

Homestay options:

1.  Family with 4 persons – Each parent stays with one child separately.

2.  Family with 3 persons
a) Parent and child together – One parent stays alone OR
b) All stay together in one home.

Academics:

Parents are given three choices and may choose all three if they would like – dependant on the duration of their stay.

Additional Canadian Opportunities:

As part of our Family Program we offer our families the opportunity to add to their Canadian experience by taking part in one or more of the following activities while they study at Westwind English Academy.  Westwind will help families to organize their chosen activity and will send them on their way (translators are available to travel with you for an additional fee).

English + Activity Program

 

This is a customized program that students create based on their interests and budget.  Students can study English full-time or part-time and take part in a variety of activities of their choice.  Some activities include, but are not limited to; kayaking, diving, golfing, skiing, curling, hockey, snow shoeing, quad riding, and many more.

Digital Film School

 

Students will gain a solid foundation of knowledge about the film industry.

Courses focus on:

  • Creation of the screenplay and its breakdown for production.
  • The stages of production from concept to post.
  • Production techniques.
  • Editing techniques.
  • Set administration.
  • The technical aspects, including camera, lighting and sound.

Keys to success, including attitude, teamwork and how to market yourself.

Career Opportunities

Major motion picture production in BC is a multi-million dollar industry requiring well-trained personnel to fill its entry level requirements.

Further, the growth of BC's independent indigenous film industry must be fuelled by new, talented, and well-trained filmmakers with the attitude and foresight.
