Powell River is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts. With our summer programs for teens, we take full advantage of its perfect location nestled between the Pacific Ocean and the Coastal Mountains. Westwind camps are designed for kids ages 12 through 17. They provide students with 15 hours of English Classes, a half-day excursions and a full-day excursion each week they are with us (see sample week schedule). We offer three fantastic summer programs in July and August. Students can join us for 2 – 6 weeks, depending on their level of adventure. |

ENGLISH + VARIETY PACK CAMP |
Duration: 2, 4, 6 weeks in July and August
Age: 12 - 17
Students who are enrolled in this camp study English half days and improve their language skills with total immersion in sports, sightseeing, social activities and cultural events after class and on weekends. They will practice their fundamental English Skills; listening, reading, writing, vocabulary, and pronunciation. While enjoying all that Powell River has to offer; hiking, quad riding, swimming, kayaking, diving, fishing, beach volleyball, tennis and golf.
Duration: 2 or 4 weeks in July and August
Age 13 – 17
This camp offers students both structured lessons in English and focuses on up to 4 of their favourite summer activities (depending on the duration of their stay). Students will receive 15 hours of English instruction along with 20 hours of their chosen activity, they will also participate in the half-day excursions on Mondays. Included in those 20 adventure-filled hours are lessons, practice time, and enjoyment time. The activities the students can choose from are; golf/tennis combo; kayaking/diving combo
Golf/Tennis Combo: |
Golf: 20 hours of golfing
- 5 hours of instruction: receive five 50 minute lessons by a CPGA Instructor
- 2 half rounds of golf (9 holes)
- 1 full round of golf (18 holes)
Tennis: 20 hours of tennis

Kayaking/Diving Combo: |
Diving: 20 hours of diving – receive Open Water Certification
- 8 hours of classroom instruction
- 4 confined dives
- 4 open water dives
Minimum of 4 students; Maximum of 12
Kayaking: 20 hours of kayaking – receive Paddle Canada Flat Water Certification
- 8 hours of classroom instruction
- 4 kayaking tours
Minimum of 4 students; Maximum 12
Combo Camps Prices – extra costs are dependent on the combo choices

Ages: 12 – 17
English Boot Camp is Westwind’s English + Variety Pack Camp with an additional 9 hours of English each week for students who are focused on an intensive study package. Off campus excursions and sightseeing activities are included in this camp.
Assessment and Evaluation:
When the students arrive at Westwind, they will be given a placement test and placed in a level that is suitable for them. At Westwind we have a four level placement; beginning, high beginning, intermediate and high intermediate. Students will be evaluated weekly on their achievements in their ESL learning. Upon completion of the program, they will be given a certificate stating their level and their duration of stay.

Keys to success, including attitude, teamwork and how to market yourself. Career Opportunities Major motion picture production in BC is a multi-million dollar industry requiring well-trained personnel to fill its entry level requirements. Further, the growth of BC's independent indigenous film industry must be fuelled by new, talented, and well-trained filmmakers with the attitude and foresight. Students will not only explore the many positions available in the making of film and television, but will experience the vocation through industry professionals in lecture and practical application. |
